Data Management Plans
A data management (and sharing) plan is a written document that outlines how you will manage your data during your research and after the project is completed. Federal funding agencies generally require you to submit a data management plan in your grant application. This page provides resources for writing your data management plan, information on federal agency expectations for data sharing, and additional resources at UND.
About Data Management Plans
In response to the requirements of OSTP’s Nelson Memo, federal agencies are updating their expectations for Data Management and Sharing Plans. DMSPs and DMPs both refer to the same planning document required by funders and describe how data will be managed and shared.
Writing Data Management Plans
The Data Management Plan Tool is a free, open-source application that helps researchers create data management plans (DMPs). It provides templates for many of the grant agencies requiring data management plans and offers examples of plans written by other applicants. Sign up with your UND email for access to UND-specific templating language.
